Generator paralleling + protection upgrade · HAEVA

HAEVA.
Power, in parallel.

A six-generator control, protection and load-sharing upgrade that gives a legacy jack-up power plant a modern, maintainable operating environment.

A legacy plant.
One coordinated upgrade.

As HAEVA was reactivated for its next operating phase, ageing generator controls had reached the limit of their serviceability. Spares risk, protection reliability and long-term maintainability all required a practical response.

Monitor Systems surveyed the switchboard arrangement, generator interfaces and protection schemes before producing the drawings, I/O lists, functional design specification and integration plans needed to deliver the upgrade as one controlled package.

01

Generator control + load sharing

Stable synchronisation across the generator plant

DEIF paralleling and protection controllers were installed to coordinate generator starting, synchronisation and automatic load sharing across HAEVA's six generator sets.

6 generator sets under coordinated control
  • Generator start and synchronisation sequences verified at factory acceptance test
  • Automatic load sharing designed around the existing generating plant
  • Operating logic engineered for clear, practical offshore use

Beyond the switchboard.
Designed for the whole operation.

For comparable generator upgrades, power management can be extended beyond the immediate control retrofit to create a more resilient, connected operating environment.

Power management

Load balancing, automatic start and stop, priority load shedding and restoration, plus blackout prevention and recovery strategies.

02

Protection coordination

Generator and busbar protection, breaker interlocking, bus-tie logic and safe integration with varied switchgear arrangements.

03

Operational visibility

Clear HMI, alarms and event logging, with interfaces to machinery alarms, vessel-management systems and supervisory platforms where required.

04

Proof and handover

Survey, functional design, factory and site acceptance testing, commissioning records and class-witness support where the scope requires it.

The upgrade was installed and commissioned in the Netherlands, integrating existing generators, engine governors and switchgear. Factory and final tests covered generator starting, synchronisation, load transfer, protection, alarms, interlocks and fail-safe behaviour; final testing was witnessed by DNV.
