Rack phase differential monitoring + single-chord jacking

RPD.
Every chord, in control.

Turn rack phase difference into clear, real-time jacking decisions—so operators can act early, control each chord and protect the leg.

Jacking by feel
is no longer enough.

Rack phase difference can give an early indication of possible leg overstress, yet continuous manual measurement during jacking is difficult and labour intensive. RPD turns that variable into an accurate, recorded electronic and mechanical measurement across all three legs.

For a documented Thailand retrofit, Monitor Systems supplied an M1000 RPD system and modified the existing control system for single-chord jacking—from survey, design and build through documentation, installation assistance and commissioning.

Shelf Drilling Enterprise is one example installation. The RPD architecture is applied across multiple owners’ jack-up assets worldwide, with each retrofit engineered around the rig’s existing jacking arrangement.

Rack phase differential measurement

A clear reading of every leg’s condition

M1000 RPD measures and records rack phase difference across all three jack-up legs. The product architecture uses high-accuracy absolute encoders to give operators continuous feedback rather than relying on manual measurement.

0.3 mm resolution from absolute encoders
  • One daisy-wheel sensor per leg chord: three per leg, nine across a three-leg rig
  • Real-time measurement and recording of rack phase difference
  • Designed to remain effective through vibration, shock and lateral leg movement

A controlled jacking retrofit,
not a black box.

RPD connects field measurement, motor control and operator guidance into a system that can be tailored to the jacking configuration already in service.

01

Continuous monitoring

Automated phase-difference measurement supports real-time feedback, recorded data and early warning of conditions that need attention.

02

Single-chord control

Controlled correction at individual chords supports practical leg deployment and recovery while reducing risk to jacking equipment and structure.

03

Operator response

Graphical and numerical HMI views, configurable alarms, trends and maintenance guidance turn system data into a clear next action.

04

Retrofit + support

Survey, design, engineering, installation assistance and commissioning bring the RPD solution into an existing jack-up environment.
