Pipelay vessel · Hydraulic control
DEEP ENERGY HPU.
Pressure under control.
A containerised PLC and SCADA control system delivering regulated flow and pressure to two mechanically lined pipe reels.
Explore the system
01 · The challenge
Control the pressure.
Protect the pipe.
The Deep Energy vessel required controlled hydraulic pressure and flow for mechanically lined pipe handling across two independent reel circuits.
The control system also had to integrate with the vessel’s existing SCADA environment, retain operational redundancy and bring the pumps to a safe state on emergency stop.

02 · The installed system
Two circuits.
One integrated package.
A Siemens S7-300 PLC monitors pressure, delivery flow and reservoir level while controlling pumps, discharge valves and the regulator valve for each MLP reel.
- Two high-pressure circuits with crossover redundancy
- PLC controls housed with the HPU in one 10-foot container
- Two 55 kW pumps with soft starters and MCCB protection
- Industrial PC running custom SCADA software
03 · Packaged control
Pressure data.
At the machine.
The packaged system combines hydraulic instrumentation, PLC control and local visualisation inside the HPU container.

04 · Engineering delivery
Built as one.
Connected to the vessel.
Monitor Systems completed design, manufacture, assembly, documentation, installation and commissioning for the packaged HPU control system.
- Circuit redundancyA crossover facility allows either high-pressure circuit to support the other reel.
- SCADA integrationThe package connects into the vessel’s existing monitoring environment.
- Safe stoppingSafety relays stop the pumps and close every discharge valve on E-stop.
- Packaged deliveryHydraulic and control equipment were integrated in a single container.
