Semi-submersible · RMS upgrade
RIG MANAGEMENT.
Every system, in view.
A fault-tolerant PLC and SCADA upgrade that gives operators a resilient view of vital equipment across a semi-submersible rig.

01 · The challenge
Remove the
single point of failure.
The original RMS network was neither redundant nor fault tolerant, so one network fault could affect visibility across the entire system.
Following a full on-site survey and class compliance evaluation, Monitor Systems developed a robust PLC-based replacement around system availability, operator access and maintainable documentation.

02 · The installed system
Redundant by design.
Clear by operation.
Redundant fibre optic rings carry plant and terminal traffic on separate networks, while reconfigured power distribution makes use of the rig’s existing UPS.
- Seven new operator stations across the rig
- Hazardous-area HMI for UPA alarm monitoring
- Separate plant and terminal fibre rings
- Alarm configuration through the SCADA interface
03 · Operator visibility
Health data.
Where it matters.
The RMS monitors and records operational health across engines, drill-floor systems, anchor winches, pump rooms and supporting equipment.

04 · Engineering delivery
Surveyed.
Installed.
Handed over.
Monitor Systems completed engineering, assembly, simulation testing, fibre installation, on-site commissioning and crew training, supported by a fully redrafted loop-diagram set.
- Class complianceThe upgraded RMS was engineered for current legislation and full class approval.
- Network resilienceRedundant fibre rings increase reliability and system availability.
- Operator controlAlarm parameters and descriptions can be managed within SCADA.
- Complete handoverCommissioning, documentation and crew training were delivered on site.
