Semi-submersible · Bulk-tank control
TRANSOCEAN LEADER.
Bulk control, brought forward.
A modern PLC, HMI and valve-control replacement that returns a critical bulk system to a clear, supportable operating environment.

01 · The challenge
Replace the failed
control generation.
The existing bulk-tank control system had failed and the vessel needed a replacement that worked with its original valve infrastructure while delivering modern diagnostic and operator capability.
Monitor Systems designed a compact architecture around the operating reality: multiple locations, a critical valve population and clear control access at the point of use.

02 · The installed system
A compact core.
A connected vessel.
A Siemens S7-1500 PLC and ET 200SP remote I/O platform communicate through fibre Profinet to serve the controls and HMIs across the installation.
- 56 existing pneumatic butterfly and proportional valves retained in service
- Two 19-inch operator HMIs plus two 7-inch bridge displays
- Fibre Profinet links to equipment installed at multiple vessel locations
- Modern diagnostics and intuitive visualisation for the operating team
03 · Delivery
Designed around
the asset already there.
The replacement was engineered to respect the working mechanical installation while bringing its controls, HMI and network architecture forward.
- System designA new control platform was scoped around the vessel’s existing valve hardware and locations.
- Control upgradeS7-1500 and distributed I/O provide a maintainable, modern automation core.
- Operator accessLarge and bridge-mounted HMIs keep the bulk system readable from the places it is run.
- Integrated networkFibre Profinet delivers robust communication across the distributed installation.
